Edo 2020: More Wins for Ize-Iyamu

Edo 2020: Ize-Iyamu in Plagiarism Controversy, PDP Calls for Probe

The flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the forthcoming Edo State governorship election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu finds himself in the amidst of plagiarism controversy as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) calls for a probe.

This is coming after a former governorship aspirant in Edo State, Dr. Don-Pedro Obaseki accused Ize-Iyamu of plagiarising his campaign manifesto, the SIMPLE agenda.

Obaseki, who is the Convener, Midwest Movement, in a statement on Thursday said Ize-Iyamu stole the SIMPLE Agenda and vowed to retrieve his intellectual property.

According to him, he first publicly unveiled the SIMPLE agenda in August 2015 during a live programme on BENTV UK, where he presented his six-pronged campaign manifesto as an aspirant in the 2016 governorship election in Edo State.

He said: “My SIMPLE idea is an acronym for Security and Social Welfare; Infrastructural Development and Urban Renewal; Manpower Development and Training; Public-Private Partnership; Leadership by Example and Employment for Edo Youths. This is the same as what the pastor and his followers are parading online today.

“So, I state categorically that I would be commencing processes for retrieving my intellectual property, as it is obvious that the idea did not originate from those who are pushing on with it today.”

Meanwhile, during the unveiling of Ize-Iyamu’s “The POI SIMPLE Agenda” for Edo State on Monday, July 13, 2020, Ize-Iyamu said every component of manifesto creates room for employment generation, just as he promised to continue with the programme he would inherit from the current administration if he wins the election, particularly the Benin Water Storm project, designed to check flooding in the state.

He said: “When Chief Obafemi Awolowo in 1978 formed the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), even though I was quite young, I was fascinated by the manifesto of his party. The four cardinal programmes of the UPN were: free education, free health services, integrated rural development and employment for all. It was very easy to understand as it was all-encompassing, and the manifesto alone made me to pick an interest in the party- I became a member of the youth wing. From an early age, I appreciate the role of manifestoes in party formation, and it was key in the choice of the party to belong.”

On projects, Ize-Iyamu said: “The water storm project cannot be abandoned. We must commend those who planned it, even when four years ago I was contesting for office, I commended the foresight because I realised that flooding was becoming a major problem in our state and especially in Benin-city. There are many areas where when it rains, not only are the roads impassable but the houses there are in serious danger. So when the storm water was conceived and execution started, it offered a lot of hope.”

Speaking further, he noted that even though it is difficult to see, if there are projects that Obaseki has started, they would all be completed.

Ize-Iyamu explained the meaning of the SIMPLE acronym. According to him, ‘S’ stands for Security and Social Welfare; ‘I’ stands for Infrastructural Development and Urban Renewal; ‘M’ stands for Manpower Development; ‘P’ stands for Public-Private Partnership; ‘L’ stands for Leadership by Example; while ‘E’ stands for Employment and Empowerment Scheme.

Recall that Ize-Iyamu launched “The Simple Agenda: A Manifesto of Hope” in 2016 when he vied for the Edo State Governorship position under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

SIMPLE Agenda Ize Iyamu

“The Simple Agenda: A Manifesto of Hope” was published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform, United States in 2016.

The SIMPLE Agenda consists of the Roadmap which Ize-Iyamu intends to implement if he finally becomes the Governor of Edo State.

Reacting to the allegation of plagiarism levelled against Ize-Iyamu, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to investigate the allegation.

The Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Council (ESPDPCC) made the call on IGP as it lampooned  Ize-Iyamu over embarrassing allegations that his much-hyped “SIMPLE” agenda was copied from another Edo state governorship aspirant in 2015.

Chris Nehikhare, spokesman for the  Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Council in a signed statement said the allegation was embarrassing for a man who aspires to lead a people to be enmeshed in plagiarism.

The PDP Campaign Council said it is unfortunate that the APC candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu has become a butt of public ridicule following the emergence of video interview wherein another Edo state governorship aspirant in 2015, Don Pedro Obaseki, unveiled the same SIMPLE agenda document as his campaign manifesto in that election.

According to PDP, this development is instructive especially when placed side by side the description of the APC candidate by no less a person as the immediate past chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, the APC candidate is a man of questionable character who cannot be trusted with the position of the governor of Edo state.

The PDP charged Ize-Iyamu to immediately speak out on the allegation as plagiarism is a serious criminal offence for which culprits must be prosecuted according to the law.

This is because any individual aspiring for the position of a state governor must live above board and be seen as so in the eyes of the voting population, the campaign council stated. https://tribuneonlineng.com/investigate-ize-iyamu-over-plagiarism-of-simple-agenda-pdp-urges-igp/
