Oshiomhole: Edo Election and Kwara Square Play

Edo 2020: I will Work for Ize-Iyamu’s Election – Oshiomhole

The immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has said he regrets supporting Mr Godwin Obaseki for governorship in 2016, vows to support Ize-Iyamu’s election in the September 19 governorship election in Edo State.

Oshiomhole said this last weekend in Benin City, Edo state capital while addressing some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He disclosed that he supported the governorship aspiration of Obaseki in 2016 to ensure the continuity of his projects and programmes but he regrets throwing his weight behind him.

He said, “Obaseki is MoU (Memoranda of Understanding) governor, but Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is a man of God, who will ensure good governance in Edo State from November 12 this year.

“I have made my honest mistakes. Only God is perfect. I am now 68 years. I have come to apologise for the mistake of supporting Obaseki in 2016.

“I am in Edo to repair my mistakes. God had a reason for what happened to Ize-Iyamu in 2016. Leaving as the National Chairman of APC is to give me enough time to correct my errors.

“Obaseki pretended for almost eight years, while he did not believe in what I was doing as the governor.

“In 2007, Ize-Iyamu stepped down for me. In 2012, he was the Director-General of my re-election campaign organisation and we won in all the 18 local government areas of Edo.

“I will work for the election of Ize-Iyamu”, he said.

Oshiomhole asked his supporters to repeat a prayer after him. He said,

“To those I sold the product that turned out to be fake, God you know I didn’t know he was fake. Only time shall tell who a man is. During his election, there were printers from Edo State who printed his posters but after being elected, even menu cards are printed in Port Harcourt.

“Suddenly, there are no MCs (Masters of Ceremony) in Edo State. MCs are imported from neighbouring States. Lord, he who forgot us, our time is coming. We shall speak to you, God in Heaven. You know we voted him in innocence and in trust. He has abused the trust. Enable us Lord, with our PVCs (Permanent Voter Cards) we shall punish him.

“With our broom we shall sweep him out. Together, we will bring your servant who is God-fearing, who will not repeat his mistakes and will complete the project of taking Edo to the next level. All these are many more we say in the mighty name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Oshiomhole’s prayers ended with a thunderous Amen from his supporters.

The former governor urged the governorship candidate of the APC in Edo to keep to his promises.

He expressed optimism that Ize-Iyamu would emerge victorious in the September 19 governorship election in the state.

Ize-Iyamu, while addressing his supporters, stated that the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki had not done well in almost four years and had lost focus.

He urged people of the state to massively vote for him on September 19.

Meanwhile, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole led the governorship candidate of the APC, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, and other leaders to the Enigies at the palace of its President, Edomwonyi Ogiegbean, the Enigie of Egbaen, to present the core policies and plans of his campaign manifesto “The SIMPLE Agenda”.

Enigies are heads of various towns and villages that make up the Benin Kingdom like Obozuwa, Evbobanose, Udo, Okpaihe, Ugo Isi, Obagie, Enyaen, Ugo-Niyekorhiomwon, Uruegbe and Urhonigbe, amongst others.

The former governor knelt before the Enigies and solicitated their support for the APC Governorship candidate, Ize-Iyamu.

Recall that the relationship between the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki and the immediate past National chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole deteriorated following the disqualification of Obaseki by the APC Governorship Primary Election Screening Committee.

This situation prompted Obaseki to dump APC for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) where he clinched the party’s Governorship ticket ahead of the September 19 governorship election in Edo State.
