APC Backs FG’s Fuel and Electricity Tariff Increment
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has thrown its weight behind the Federal Government’s fuel and electricity tariff increment, describes the move as evidence of an administration that is working in the interest of all Nigerians.
The APC said this in a statement released on Wednesday night by its deputy national spokesperson, Yekini Nabena. The statement is a response to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s stance on the hike in fuel and electricity tariff.
Nabena said, “For successive PDP governments that foisted on the country, a corruption-tainted fuel subsidy regime, we call on the PDP to surprise itself and indeed Nigerians by cajoling its cronies who ran the subsidy rackets — many of them in hiding abroad — to return our stolen commonwealth in their possession.
“Under the President Muhammadu Buhari administration. The tortuous fuel queues as a result of biting scarcities are gone. The reviewed petroleum products pricing template has resulted in a more transparent, efficient and realistic pricing system for petroleum products and also resulted in constant availability of fuel nationwide.
“The pricing template now reflects competitive and market-driven components which is supported by the citizenry.

“In an effort by this administration to put an end to estimated and arbitrary billing for electricity, President Buhari recently directed a nationwide mass metering programme for electricity consumers in the country”, he added while urging the PDP to wake up to the new Nigeria where the government works for the citizens, not a few interests.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had earlier lampooned President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration over Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and electricity tariff increment.
Speaking through its spokesperson, Kola Ologbodinyan, the PDP said, “Our party asserts that by increasing the price of fuel from the N87 per litre it sold under the PDP to an excruciating N151 while at the same time allowing the hike in electricity tariff from N30.23 per kwh to over N66, the APC has left no one in doubt that its agenda is to inflict pain and hardship on Nigerians to satisfy their selfish interests.”
The party challenged President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to publish the parameters used to arrive at the current price given “the prevailing values in the international market”.
Meanwhile, a former Vice President of Nigeria and Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has condemned the increase in electricity tariff.
Taking to his Twitter handle to register his displeasure, Atiku Abubakar said, “I reject the increased electricity tariffs. Coming out of the lockdown, Nigerians need a stimulus, not an impetuous disregard for the challenges they face. Many Nigerians have not earned an income for months, due to no fault of theirs. This increase is ill-timed and ill-advised.”
