Kwara Gov lauds Owolewa’s victory in US polls

Sen. Ashiru congratulates Kwara-born Democrat, Oye Owolewa on his election into the US Congress

The senator representing Kwara South senatorial district, Senator Oyelola Ashiru has congratulated Kwara-born Democrat, Oye Owolewa on his election as a shadow United States (US) Representative for the District of Columbia.

The senator expressed his heartfelt congratulations and described the victory historic, being the first Nigerian- American to be elected into the US congress.

The 31-year-old Democrat, whose father hails from Omu-Aran in Kwara State, had a PhD in pharmacy from the Northeastern University, Boston.

Mr. Oye is well known to be a community advocate, in 2018, he was elected commissioner in SouthEast DC.

In the outcome of the election, Oye Owolewa had 81.59% of the votes, which represents 164,026 votes against Joyce Robinson-Paul, who had 18,600 votes, and Sohaer Syed with 15,372 votes.
