World Prematurity Day 2020: Rukayat Ashiru makes donation to enhance safe delivery

The wife of Distinguished Senator Oyelola Ashiru, representing Kwara South Senatorial District, Alhaja Rukayat Ashiru has made a donation to healthcare provider to enhance safe delivery and to reduce neonatal deaths.

This was done in collaboration with March Health Initiative to commemorate the World Prematurity Day 2020, themed: Together for babies born too soon— Caring for the future.

In her goodwill message at the palace of Olofa of Offa, Hajia Rukayat said: “For this year commemoration of Prematurity Day, with the support of my husband, the Distinguished Senator Ashiru Oyelola Yisa, and in collaboration with March Health Initiative Care, we have decided to donate newborn commodities for Abogunnugun Primary Health Care Centre at Film House, to enhance safe delivery and to aid the efficiency of the healthcare workers”.

She further urged all relevant stakeholders to come together to address the neonatal mortality with more emphasis on the day of birth and the first week of birth.

The event was graced by Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi, the Olofa of Offa who on behalf of March Health Initiative presented an award of Newborn Ambassador to Hajia Rujayat Ashiru.

Also in attendance were, Iyaloja and Babaloja of Offa, March Health Initiative Members, Community health care officers, nursing mothers, among others.

For the benefit of nursing mothers and their babies, the commodities donated includes – Sharp Boxes, Veronical pockets, Resuscitation Tables, segmentation of ward, among others. Also, the nurses in charge were trained on newborn resuscitation.
