AFCON 2020 Qualifiers: Sports Minister questions Rohr’s competence
Nigerian Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare has expressed doubts over the competence of Super Eagles’ Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr, to lead the football team to victory at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Minister took to his Twitter handle @SundayDareSD to express disappointment over the poor performance of the Super Eagles during their last two matches.
“The performance of the Super Eagles from their last two matches calls to question the suitability and competences of Technical Adviser, Rohr. “Nigerian football deserves better. The needful will be done. Apologies to all football lovers”, Sunday Dare stated.
The Minister said this in reaction to the 4-4 and 0-0 draws between Nigeria and Sierra Leone in the 2020 AFCON qualifier fixture on Friday and Tuesday in Benin City and Freetown respectively.
67 years old Rohr who began managing the Super Eagles in 2016 had his contract extended by the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Melvin Pinnick in May 2020 with the hope that he would lead the national team to victory.
