Paternity scandal: Tope Alabi’s daughter sets record straight

Ayomikun Alabi, the first daughter of popular gospel singer, Tope Alabi, has set records straight on the controversies surrounding her paternity, saying the only father she knows is her mother’s husband, Soji Alabi.

This is coming as one Mr Mayegun Olaoye took to social media to claim the paternity of Ayomikun, alleging that Tope Alabi denied him access to his daughter for 22 years.

Reacting to the news, Ayomikun Alabi, in an exclusive interview with The PUNCH, stated that she was not surprised about the development as her mother had since informed her about the man.

Ayomikun, however, emphasized that the only father she has is Mr Soji Alabi, who has been married to her mother for over two decades and has been taking care of her.

She clarified that contrary to insinuations that her mother prevented her from knowing her biological father, the man claiming to be her father never tried reaching out to her.

Speaking on claims that Tope Alabi changed her daughter’s surname to that of her new husband (Alabi) rather than retaining that of her biological father (Olaoye), Ayomikun said:

“I cannot bear his surname. How can I bear the surname of someone that I have never met? There is no sense in that. I do not even know his surname.”

She added, “I do not know what he is trying to do and I do not see the point of what he is doing. What I know is that with what he has done, he does not care about my feelings, neither did he put it into consideration. This makes it obvious that he is not that good of a father. For him to have gone out to social media to claim me, I think he has completely lost the chance of any reconciliation at any point in time; that was the last straw.”

Ayomikun noted that the only way she could patch things up with her biological father is if they meet in court and there is a judgment to that effect.

“If the man wants to reach out to me to patch things up, it would be in court. I do not think that I want to patch things up but I know that I will definitely meet him in court if he ever wants to talk. It cannot be a civil matter because he did not make it a civil matter when he went to social media to talk,” she said.

Ayomikun appreciated her mother and foster father, saying “they have been the best people and after God, my parents are next in my life”.
