Zabarmari Massacre: Buhari pledges to equip the military to tackle insurgency
President Muhammadu Buhari has pledged to equip the military and other security agencies in the war against insurgency, saying nothing is more important than ensuring the security of lives and property of Nigerians.
The president made this pledge in a tweet on his official Twitter handle @MBuhari, on Monday.
He said: “Nothing is more important than ensuring the security of lives and property of Nigerians. Everything is secondary when security is at stake. I will ensure that more resources are made available to the military and other security agencies to prosecute the war against terrorism.”
The president noted that Nigeria will intensify her cooperation with neighbouring countries on bilateral and multilateral levels, to ensure that there is no hiding place for the terrorists.
He added, “As I noted earlier, the massacre by Boko Haram in Zabarmari is nothing short of senseless, barbaric, gruesome and cowardly. It reinforces our resolve to root out all forms of insurgency and insecurity not just in Borno but everywhere across Nigeria.”
Meanwhile, Nigerians have continued to call for the rejigging of the country’s security architecture for efficiency.
Specifically, President Buhari has been asked to replace the service chiefs owing to their inability to tackle the deteriorating security situation in the country.
