Buhari confirms release of over 300 schoolboys kidnapped by Boko Haram

President Muhammadu Buhari has confirmed the release of over 300 schoolboys kidnapped by Boko Haram in Katsina state.

The president made the confirmation in a Tweet on his official Twitter handle, @MBuhari Thursday night.

The Tweet reads:

“I welcome the release of the kidnapped students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara. This is a huge relief to the entire country & international community. The entire country is grateful to Governor Masari, the Intelligence Agencies, the Military and the Police Force.

“Our administration is fully aware of the responsibility we have to protect the lives and property of all Nigerians. I ask Nigerians to be patient and fair to us as we deal with the challenges of security, the economy, and corruption. We will not relent.”

Recall that on December 11, 2020, over 300 pupils were kidnapped from a boys’ secondary boarding school on the outskirts of Kankara, Katsina State.

Boko Haram later claimed responsibility for the kidnapping and released a footage showing the schoolboys pleading with the Nigerian government to save them.
