Idriss Deby takes his last breath

The President of Chad, Idriss Deby has taken his last breath after sustaining gunshot injuries while fighting the latest rebellion in the north of the country.

 

According to army spokesman, General Azem Bermandoa Agouna, a military council led by the late president’s 37-year-old son, four-star General Mahamat Idriss Deby, would replace him.

 

Deby’s death was announced a day after he won a sixth term. Provisional results released on Monday showed that Deby had taken 79.3 percent of the votes.

 

He died at age 68.
