Labour Party House of Assembly Aspirant Arrested for Hiring Assassins to Kill PDP Chieftain in Ebonyi

The Ebonyi state police command has arrested Labour Party House of Assembly aspirant, Leonard Kelechi Nwali and 3 other suspects in connection with the assassination of Peter Nweke, a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ward chairman, in Ezza north LGA of the state.

Disclosing the arrest in statement issued on Friday in Abakaliki, the State capital, the Command’s Spokesperson, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, revealed that all the suspects had confessed to the crime during an interrogation.

During the interrogation of the suspects, Kelechi Nwali confessed to hiring thugs who were meant to torture the victim, however, he died in the process.

According to Nwali, the late Peter Nweke posed a threat to his political ambition, so he contacted one Akwasi of Nnachi Umuezeoka in Ezza north who spear-headed the torture that eventually resulted in the death of Mr Nweke.

The second suspect, Onyebuchi Chita of Nkomoro community confessed to bringing the killers from Nkomoro into the Ogboji community where Peter was murdered.

The third suspect, Aloke Obinna confessed to giving his motorcycle to one Onyebuchi Chita for escape after the incident.

SP Onovwakpoyeya said the suspects would be arraigned at the end of investigations.
