ASKOMP thanks Stakeholders, Kwarans as detained Journalists regain freedom

The Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) has thanked well meaning Kwarans and stakeholders who showed solidarity and support during the incarceration of its members – AdulRazaq Aiyelabegan and Oluwatoyin Lukman, Publishers of Just Event Online and SATCOM Media respectively.

Recall that the duo were detained by the Kwara State police command on Monday, September 11, 2023. They however, regained their freedom on Wednesday, September 20, after spending 10 days in detention.

ASKOMP Chairman, Salihu Shola Taofeek in a statement issued on Wednesday after securing the bail of detained journalists at Kwara Revenue Court, says the association opted for Alternative Disputes Resolution (ADR) to resolve the conflict.

According to him, AbdulRazaq Aiyelabegan and Oluwatoyin Lukman were released this afternoon from Kwara State Police Command Headquarters, Ilorin, after the court granted the bail application filed by counsel to our members, Taofeeq Olateju (Esq).

The association used the opportunity to thank all stakeholders, individuals and of course, government officials who felt concerned and gave every support from the beginning until their release was secured.

The Association particularly appreciates the petitioner, Ms. Jumoke Gafar for her openness to an amicable resolution, having understood that our members have no intention to malign her.

He however tasked ASKOMP members to continue to uphold the ethics of journalism and remain resolute in discharging their duties.
