Senate Presidency: Akpabio begins consultation, meets Buhari

Former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and senator-elect for the Ikot-Ekpene senatorial district of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has commenced consultation for the actualization of his senate presidency ambition.

Akpabio met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential villa, Abuja, on Sunday, as part of his moves to become the president of the 10th Senate.

Speaking with newsmen after the meeting, the former Akwa Ibom state governor said the visit was meant to officially inform the president about his desire to become the next Senate President.

According to him, as President of the Senate, he would work closely with incoming Bola Tinubu Presidency to empower Nigerians, particularly the youth.

He added that besides visiting to inform the president of his intent to lead the next Senate, he also used the opportunity to express his appreciation to him for giving him the opportunity to serve as minister in his administration, adding that he presented his Certificate of Return to President Buhari.

When asked what plans he has for the country if he emerges President of the Senate, Akpabio said: “A lot of reforms, Akpabio is known as an uncommon transformer. Akpabio is known as a man who is result-oriented. You will recall that when I was a governor, I brought a lot of innovations to bear, infrastructurally, educationally, socially and otherwise and also in terms of human empowerment.

“I intend to bring a lot of reforms into the Senate, in the ways and manners we do business, to assist the next administration to succeed. We will be very thorough in doing everything; we’ll bring about loyalty to the constitution, we’ll bring about loyalty to Nigerians.”

Meanwhile, the Abuja chapter of the Urhobo Council has enjoined senators to vote for Senator Godswill Akpabio to emerge president of the 10th Senate.

President of the council and ex militant leader, General Aghogho Peter in a statement said Senator Akpabio would bring his wealth of experience as a former senator, governor and minister to ensure smooth operation of the Senate as the Senate President.

Aghogho noted that with  the experience Akpabio has got as a Ranking Senator, he is best fit for the Job.
